Magical Westshore It is the stretch of Lake Tahoe from Tahoe City to Emerald Bay. Fishing, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, boating, rock climbing, four wheeling, mountain biking, you name it, it is here on the West shore Tahoe Tavern The Original Tavern featured amenities such as a barbershop, bowling alley, ballroom, theater, pleasure pier, laundry stables, golf links, swimming pool and an indoor skating rink. The Tavern was visited by many of Hollywood's favorites. The Steamer Tahoe would meet the Truckee train out on the Tavern's 1/8-mile long pier. The Tavern was sold to developers in 1960 and was demolished in or around 1964. It is now a large higher end Condominium complex offering lakefront and lake view units. Prices range here from $995,000 to $1,200,000. Granlibakken Granlibakken Resort is Lake Tahoe's West shore largest year round Resort. Although primarily a conference center there are several privately owned condos here as well. Granlibakken is home to a local's favorite sled hill and small ski hill. The resort offers tennis and a swimming pool. Condos range in price from $300,000 to $450,000. Comstock Acres This newer subdivision backs up to Paige Meadows and is quite tucked away. In the winter it is a wonderful meadow to enjoy a moonlit ski tour. The homes here range anywhere from $440,000 to $700,000. Sunnyside Sunnyside is the most commercial of the West Shore communities. It has 2 markets, campground and beach, bike shop, boat rentals, 2 restaurants, and the popular Sunnyside Resort and Marina. The homes range in price from the low $400,000's to the elegant lakefront estates that have been priced as high as $21,000,000. Pineland Here lies the entrance to Ward Creek State Park. This subdivision, located along the creek, is very wooded and shady. There are several homes here that were built by Burt Anderson; he built homes in the 60's that set the standard for the Old Tahoe cabin. This area backs up to Alpine Peaks and Alpine Ski Resort, one can catch the Sherwood lift here and access the resort from here! Homes range in price here from $500,000- 2,500,000. Timberland The feel here is very shaded and heavily wooded. Several Burt Anderson homes are here. This is a wonderful older neighborhood homes range in price from $450,000-1,000,000. Hurricane Bay Wonderful lakefront homes here. The beach is lovely white and sandy. The water is quite deep and great for boating. Some say this is the best location for a pier on the lake! Lakefront homes begin at $4,500,000. Tahoe Pines It's the area just below Eagle Rocks bluff originally called Idlewild. In 1880 this area was considered the heart of high society West Shore living. The renowned "summer whirl" took place here. It officially became Tahoe Pines in 1912. Homes in this historic area range from $950,000-6,000,000. Fleur de Lac Fleur de Lac is a walled compound of multi-million dollar condos on the lakeside of Tahoe Pines. It served as one of the locations for the film, "The Godfather, Part II." The original 16-acre retreat was the private residence of Henry J. Kaiser built for him in 1935. The condominiums here start at $5,000,000. Homewood Once a popular resort and the first stop of the S.S. Tahoe, it was especially popular for its beach, open-air dancing, boating and campfire activities. Although the resort is gone now, Homewood is still a favorite spot on the West Shore. Homewood offers resort skiing, boating activities, two marinas, restaurants, the infamous Obexers, and a variety of lodging choices. It's also home to Independence Day Fireworks. Homes are anywhere from $500,000- 2,000,000. Chambers Landing The beach here fills with sunbathers and swimmers alike. The private lakefront condo's amenities include a pool, tennis courts and lovely beach. Condos and single-family homes across the street in the Chamberlands subdivision here range from $550,000-3,000,000. McKinney Estates Just south of Chambers Landing is the turnoff to one of the most demanding 4X4 trails in America, The Rubicon Trail. It is the site of the annual Jeeper's Jamboree at Miller Lake. It backs to the Desolation Wilderness. To access these trails, one must first meander through the McKinney Estates neighborhood. This is a comparatively new subdivision tucked in alongside McKinney Creek. Homes range in price here from $450,000-1,500,000. Tahoma The little hamlet of Tahoma boasts all the amenities of a small town, along with easy access to the beautiful outdoors. The accommodations here range from Old Lakefront estates to old Tahoe Style cabins. There is a grocery/video store, post office, gas station, ice cream store, and restaurants. The area borders Sugar Pine State Park comprising over 2,000 acres of conifer forests. This area is also home to the infamous Erhman Mansion. Prices range from $350,000- 1,000,000. Meeks Bay Emerald waters here mark the territory, with beautiful lakefront and lake view homes. Meeks Bay Campground, once run by the Washoe Tribe, is located here and is quite popular amongst larger groups. There are limited concessions available. Homes here range from $500,000-$6,200,000. Rubicon One of the most beautiful bays on the west shore, with a highly desirable community of expensive lakefront and lake view homes. Backing this area is Rubicon Peak; a popular spot for local back country skiers and snowboarders alike. Prices of homes here are $500,000-$15,000,000 |
